Barnsley Sixth Form Launch![]() Barnsley Sixth Form College launched its new visual identity this week with the unveiling of their new logo. The logo was designed by competition winner Danny Mellor from Barnsley Sixth Form College’s Art and Design department and was selected from over 100 design entries. The new design incorporates Barnsley Sixth Form College’s drive for outstanding with an arrow pointing upwards and is cleverly formed using a ‘6’ and a ‘B’. The unveiling ceremony was presided over by The Worshipful the Mayor of Barnsley, the Mayoress and the Deputy Lieutenant, dignitaries including local councillors, governors of the College and Head Teachers from across the borough. Students and staff from the Sixth Form also joined in the celebration as 1000 Purple and Silver balloons soared over the town to recognise the start of a new era for Barnsley Sixth Form College. The balloon release carried out on the day also started a new competition and anyone returning one of the tags attached to the balloons will be entered into a draw to win an iPod Touch.The unveiling of the new logo precedes the switch on of new illuminated signage which will be visible across the borough and beyond. Competition winner Danny, was delighted to receive vouchers for £200 but was even more pleased that his design would be associated with the College for years to come, ‘I am really pleased to have won the competition. A lot of my friends also enteredso to be chosen out of all the entries was brilliant.’When asked about the idea behind the design he said, ‘I just thought it would be good to combine the ‘6’ and the ‘B’ and to keep the design nice and simple.’ The competition also received entries from schools throughout the borough with some fantastic design ideas. Moor End High School in Huddersfield also sent in a number of outstanding ideas and College staff were amazed that the competition had grabbed the attention of so many people. The launch of the new logo follows on from the recent success of Barnsley Sixth Form College when consultant Ofsted Inspectors carried out a rigorous four day inspection. The results highlighted how far Barnsley Sixth Form College have come in their drive to give the best possible experience and learning opportunities for the young people of Barnsley, with Inspectors identifying the improvements made as having ‘significant impact’. Students also performed extremely well in the recent AS/A2 examinations with results showing significant improvements. Barnsley College will hold its Graduation ceremony on Friday 1st October 2010 at 12.00pm at Barnsley Town Hall.
Barnsley College and Fosters Bakery formalised their working relations
with an official partnership signing event on Tuesday 14th September.
Barnsley College were delighted to find out that they had made it
through to the regional final of the National Training Awards. Following
a visit from the judges, the College has now progressed on to the
regional final where the winners will be announced in September.
