New Governors Join Board at Barnsley College

Barnsley College was pleased to welcome two new members to their Board of Governors last week. Joining the board will be Gordon Beever and Ray Corner.

Gordon Beever was previously the managing director of Bespoke Recast Ltd in Sheffield until the company was sold in 2007. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and was educated locally in Penistone as well as at Barnsley College. Having lived in the area for over 30 years, Gordon brings with him an in-depth knowledge of the local community, education system and needs of the young people. He will be a member of the Finance & Resources Committee and the Property Strategy Committee as part of his role on the Board.

Ray Corner has had a varied career in public sector finance, much of which was at a senior level in the Education sector. He worked for 3 local authorities over a 19 year period after qualifying as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant in 1970. He joined Price Waterhouse as a consultant, working for a number of public sector clients including the Audit Commission. Ray became Head of Finance at Salford College of Technology in 1990, progressing to Director of Finance in 1994 at Salford University. He will be a member of the Finance and Resources Committee on the Board.

The College is delighted to welcome two extremely experienced individuals to the Board and feel their expertise will be invaluable to the future success of the College.
