BARNSLEY COLLEGE SPORTS STUDENTS SELECTED FOR NATIONAL SQUAD Barnsley College Sports students Luke Danville and Rikki Popplewell have been successfully selected to represent England in the English College’s Football Association national squad. Central defender Luke and centre forward Rikki have progressed significantly since they have joined the College’s Football Development Programme and have been in outstanding form this and last season. Sports Development Officer at Barnsley College, Leigh Mackie said, “this is a great achievement for both Luke and Rikki, they should be really proud of their accomplishment. Their success is testament to the quality of their hard work and dedication, as well as that of the staff and coaches of the teams, who work tirelessly to improve the chances of the players achieving individual and team success. I am proud that they are representing the College and will be recognised right across the country.” Rikki and Luke successfully made it through three regional trials including a residential trip to Lilleshall High Performance Centre for the final selection trial. The English College’s Football Association national squad is made up of 22 under 19 players from colleges across the country that competes in the ECFA leagues.
